CTM-15X Modem How To Guides

Gateway How To Guides

Circuit Switched Configuration

Circuit switched operation refers to the traditional modem operating mode where the modem is called using its telephone number from another modem (which may be a wired or wireless device). The modem may also initiate a circuit switched call to another modem. This application note is specific to Chameleon CTM-13X modems.

HyperTerminal

HyperTerminal is a Windows communication application that is used for the configuration of Chameleon modems using AT commands.

Linux

There are many flavors of Linux! This application note describes the configuration and operation for Red Hat Linux in order to provide a wireless communication link using a Chameleon CDMA modem.

MODBUS

Chameleon modems support the MODBUS industrial communications protocol. In this configuration it is used as a wireless gateway to remote MODBUS slave devices connected on its serial port. MODBUS requests are sent to the modem using UDP packets. For legacy MODBUS master devices that do not support UDP, the Chameleon Modem can be configured to provide MODBUS ID to IP address mapping.

Packet Assembly/Disassembly (PAD)

PAD is used to provide a transparent RS-232 link to an end device using the CDMA digital packet network. This is commonly used to make a remote connection to SCADA devices or monitoring equipment which uses proprietary communication protocols.

USB Connection

Many PC's use USB serial ports in place of RS-232 ports. Using a single USB to RS-232 adaptor it is possible to connect a Chameleon modem to your USB equipped PC.
