Pendant Basics

1. What is Intrinsically Safe?

Intrinsically Safe is a protection concept for sensitive and potentially explosive atmospheres. Intrinsic safety relies on the equipment being designed so that it is unable to release sufficient energy (by either thermal or electrical means) to cause an ignition of a flammable gas.
Intrinsically Safe is achieved by limiting the amount of power available to the electrical equipment to a level below that which will ignite the gases.

2. What if there is an emergency?

The press of a single large button prompts an alarm notification. The single button press was designed for the sole purpose of simplicity. Nobody wants to be fumbling with multiple button sequences or small keypad dialing during an emergency.

3. If the emergency button is accidentally pressed, can it be cancelled?

Yes. If the button is pressed in error, a Cancel Alert message can be sent by double clicking the button within 1 second and then pressing and holding the button until the pendant issues 1 beep and 1 vibrate. This Cancel Alert message will allow the monitoring station to recall any aid that has been dispatched.

4. What if there is an emergency and my employee is unable to press the button?

The integrated motion sensor prompts an alert notification when the pendant is motionless after 60 seconds. From the moment of no motion up until the 30 second mark, the pendant will sound a series of increasing beeps to warn the user. This allows the employee ample time to resume pendant motion, should there be no emergency.

5. Can i view the location of my employee?

Although the Man Down Pendant does not have a built in GPS receiver, the modem installed into the user’s vehicle can calculate its position based on its own GPS receiver. When an emergency message is received, the modem can add its position information to this message providing a relative position to the Man Down Pendant.

6. What is the pendant's typical battery life?

The pendant uses 2 x AA alkaline batteries. Battery life depends on the environment and how the device is used but in most cases 12-14 days of 10 hr/day use is typical. Battery life is between 150-160 hrs when the pendant is in range of a gateway. If the pendant is out of range 100% of the time, the battery life is 57-67 hrs.
